I want a Ross mug, showing excerpts of his code and his stupid face... I would pay anything!!!

Haha great idea, I'll make one :-) I didn't anyone would want something like that, because nobody identifies in Ross :-)

The Idea of 5 strips per week sounds great. No wait, the other thing ... tremendous! However, if the quality is affected, better let it be. To be honest, with this Web 2.0 integrating, fancy page and this and that ... the comics have not improved (except on the technical level), to be frank, I like more of the older ones than of the newer ones.

However, that's not the point. Donating is probably a good idea, but you should also provide more than two fan-items.

My 5 cents.

What do you mean more than 2 fan items? Got any ideas? Those 2 I had already require a lot of work and I couldn't possibly do more unless the donations were so much that I could quit my day job, and knowing how many readers there are, that's not going to happen any time soon. I'd have also a third idea, for the future: classic comic book style short stories in the geek hero universe. :)

Anyway, spending time taking car of the site and the community is a big part of taking care of your comic: most professional webcomic artists spend 10% of the time actually scripting and drawing, and the rest in side activities.

Hey, I'm glad to hear you'd like to support. So here's some news for the next future. As you have seen, I have removed the ads from the site, for two reasons:

  • I didn't like the site esthetically, because of them: they were clutter.

  • They didn't really make much money, not enough to pay for the hosting anyway.

I am planning to move to a donation based model, starting about a month from now. There will be 2 donation incentives:

  • Access to a password protected area of the site: donate any amount, and get a password valid for a month. In there I'd upload extra content, like little strips, little stories, wallpapers, other stuff.

  • If the total donations for a month reach a certain amount, I'll do extra strips, like 5 a week for the following month.

Now, concerning the store: I'm yet to find a cheap service that prints t-shirts, mugs, and other stuff on demand. That $20 tee shirt that you see there... guess what my share would be? $1. Yeah.

So in the end, the store doesn't sound like a good model, but donations do, so I'm betting that enough people will be able to donate 5 bucks every now and then, and keep Geek Hero going.

That's disappointing, I would really dig a Geek Hero coffee container of some sort :/ To make up for it, I could just make one myself, and donate the $5 to pretend I bought it ;D

siovene 0 points1 point 1 year ago[-]

Well I could make one anyway, because it doesn't take much time. Do you have any design preferences or should I just think of something? :-)

happycodemonkey 1 point2 points 1 year ago[-]

Oooohhh that would be awesome! You can just think of something, I fail at any kind of visual design on multiple levels. :) I'll take pictures of the finished product!

siovene 1 point2 points 1 year ago[-]

So, how do you like this? :-) Let me know if you'd rather have it unbranded (no Geek Hero Comic logo). I hope you like it!

happycodemonkey 1 point2 points 1 year ago[-]

That's fantastic, I love it! Thanks!! I think the logo looks really good on it :) Very awesome!

Great :-)

I figured they probably didn't give you a big cut on the store ... and, I'm much happier donating $5 than spending $20 to give only $1 to one of my favorite comics.

Good luck with the new plans ... I'll be watching
