Just When You Thought It Couldn't Get Worse

Man, he just can't win. :P Poor guy. This series has been awesome!

I once gave a professor of mine who is passionate about open source software a still-shrink wrapped copy of Windows 3.1 as a "gift". He still has it on a shelf in his office. Not extremely relevant, but it is one of my prouder moments, I have to admit.

Ahh okay, I see. That's pretty cool, I wish it was free so I could try it out :) Programming in VS is a freaking nightmare.

System Administrator Appreciation Day

Don't forget to thank your local sysadmin if you have one! The two we have here for the CS department are awesome, hardworking people who take way more crap than they should have to. :)

They really haven't changed the damn thing at all either (visually, at least). Even the Windows 7 one is pretty ugly according to screenshots I brought up. Argh Notepad.....

I really don't know, a casual Google didn't bring anything up. That would be...interesting. And has a great potential for evil in a public computer lab....bwahahaha!

Common Pitfalls: Initialize Your Variables

happycodemonkey 1 point2 points 1 year ago[-]

Basically, he starts with one variable, sets the next variable to 0 ten times, then uses it in the next loop that sets the next variable to 0 ten times, then finally at the end sets a to 0 (ten times) :)

I have to use Visual Studio at work, it makes me sad. The debugger is pretty nice, but it really doesn't make up for the fact that everything else about it kind of sucks...

Microsoft is getting really serious about their promotional campaign...anyone with an issue gets Death set after them!

My first "IDE" was Notepad, before I realised that kills programming angels :P

The best books on programming in general

happycodemonkey 0 points1 point 1 year ago[-]

Code by Petzold is hands down the best computer-related book I've ever read. It's not exactly focused on programming, but it really blew my mind with the detailed descriptions of what it takes to build a transistor from the ground up, and a computer from there.
